Why I don't believe statistics; Alabama vs Florida

by: outside the norm

Sun Nov 15, 2009 at 19:24:45 PM CST

(Wow - three weeks worth of trash talking before this game - I can't wait.   - promoted by admin)

I have a friend, a very young man who is an Alabama native and a huge U of Alabama football fan. Since we are currently doing a play together we see each other at rehearsals nightly and rag on each other about the upcoming "Game of the Century", part 947.
Of course, I speak of the SEC Championship game on December 5. I decided to do a statistical analysis of the SEC opponents that both teams have played to show that Florida is the superior team. Results below the fold.

Words are things!

The uber-conservatives have learned one lesson really well, and that is that when you control the vocabulary, you have a better chance to win the battle.
My plea today is that we stop letting them have that advantage. I am talking about a wide range of issues here, but I will concentrate on one particularly powerful weapon in use today.
First, let's talk about the phrase "Pro-life". Why do we allow this phrase, so full of positive connotation to be highjacked by the right-wing crazies? Why do we allow a group dedicated to war, capital punishment, denial of health care, disdain for the poor and weak, and promotion of class warfare to claim any moral high ground by calling themselves "pro-life"?  We should insist on calling them what they really mean by the term: anti-choice. More below the fold...

A good Saturday for the Sunshine State; College Fooltball

(you had me at Football - not sure about the sunshine state - lol - promoted by admin)

As always, my Hurricanes made me sweat blood before pulling out a nail biter against a team they should have rolled over. Who knew Wake Forest would be a major hurdle?
Meanwhile FSU barely survived against North Carolina State. Both these teams are schizophrenic and can't decide if they want to be great or horrible.
Being a state-of-Florida fan requires one to put a lot of faith in the Gainesville Gators these days. Born and raised in Miami and having lived awhile in Tallahassee, hating the Gators was an article of faith for me.  Then, I actually lived in Hogtown for eight years, and learned that I didn't dislike the team - it was Spurrier.  When he left, I learned to like the Gators okay, due to the winning personality of Ron Zook.  Then, with Urban Meyer came unprecedented success, and even a better attitude.

A lonely day to be a Republican

Damn, those mid-term elections did not go well at all.  We worked so hard. We planted all those stories about Michelle Obama and even her daughters. We revived all the Jeremiah Wright tapes, the "secret Muslim" stories, even had Orly Taitz ramp up the birth certificate factory.

We shouted down that Socialist president every time he tried to speak to Congress, and sent hundreds of "ordinary Americans" to Town Hall meetings, even after they started asking for overtime on weekends.

We got Betsy McCaughey a makeover and a new identity and sent her back on the talk show circuit - told the bimbo to stay away from Comedy Central-and other real news shows.
