Our Candidate List
There are many people who lament the end of the '60s and complain about today's self-absorbed, materialistic youth. Now, I'm a teenager, and I can tell you that there's a grain of truth (maybe a boulder...) to those complaints, but there's also a vibrant political culture among those of us whippersnappers who do care.
Well, we all know Dylan, Lennon, and Young. But what about Francis, Folds, and Morello? If you take a look at the music scene today, it's apparent that there are a lot of young people who care. There's currently a lot of music in the same spirit, if not the same style, as the classics of protest music.
Christian youth groups finally have an alternative to normal, aka "front," hugs. As we all know, face to face embraces run the horrific risk of a clothed crotch graze. The Christian Side-Hug (or the CSH, as the kids call it) rids us of sin, as the only below the belt contact will be some good old-fashioned hip on hip action.
To help the side-hug fad sweep the nation, let us present this hardcore rap song. Yup, side-hugging has hit the streets. The group has as many emcees as the Wu-Tang Clan and as much power as a barbershop quartet.
Did you catch the political references?
Pound like Obama.. Democratic Shift In Congress alarm sound going off
"No Front Hugs and No Kissing!"
"As for all of you, before you say I do, no front huggin or PDA, or easy time and screw"
"When I hug people I leave room for the holy spirit"
What's your favorite part? Or are you sinners too busy getting front hugs to watch that video?
Watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) has requested an investigation into whether Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) broke House rules in organizing an anti-health care reform rally on November 5.
In a letter sent to the Office of Congressional Ethics (OCE), CREW contends that Bachmann violated House rules by using her official member's website to garner "grassroots lobbying" for the health care protest in question.
So please everyone.. if you value mini-zoos and golden parachutes for executives over the life of yourself and your family, vote against a public insurance option. If we can get a health insurance mandate (force you to buy insurance) and no cost control with a public option, then some executives might be able to buy that solid gold train to safari through their backyard mini-zoos.
This is a fantastic video describing why the current system of private insurance is so expensive, and why a government run option should be available to all.
If you can't load a video, the basic idea behind it is that for every $1 you spend on health insurance private companies take out 15 to 20 cents for profit and overhead. Medicare has only 2 to 3 cents in overhead and no profit. This system would make sense if the insurance companies were bringing something to the table. But like Rep Anthony Weiner says there's nothing that private insurance does that public insurance cannot.
Sessions, in a casual tone, said "Mr. Henderson, It's good to work with you. Senator Leahy and I are talking during these hearings, we're going to do that crack cocaine thing that you and I have talked about before."
After an awkward pause, Henderson laughed to himself and said, "Thank you, Senator, I appreciate that."
It turns out it was a harmless mistake
While the Senate gallery laughed, and witnesses including NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former FBI director Louis Freeh snickered, Sessions sputtered, "Let me correct the record."
Sessions explained: "I misspoke. We're going to reduce the burden of penalties in some of the crack cocaine cases and make them fair."
Now that's something I can agree with. See more on the real issue of federal drug sentencing equity by Senator Leahy below the fold.
Wow! Senator Hothead is right. I don't want this guy anywhere near the remote control to the television much less anything that would affect our nation.
