How We Will Fix This: Undoing Citizens United Part 3

by: SumofChange

Mon Aug 02, 2010 at 09:38:12 AM CDT

(Thanks for the diary. Will watch for sure. This is one panel that I wanted to attend, but missed unfortunately.   - promoted by admin)

cross-posted from Sum of Change

This is our last round of videos from the Netroots Nation panel, Undoing Citizens United: A Comprehensive Plan to Prevent Corporations from Buying Elections (here is part 1, and part 2). Today, we are going to focus mostly on how to move forward. But first, some inspiration from Congresswoman Donna Edwards:

How Democrats can impeach Obama in one easy step

How Democrats can impeach President Obama in one easy step

Step #1.     Do NOT vote in 2010

That is all it will take!

If you want a Republican majority in Congress, be certain to not vote in the elections this November, because that is what you will be likely to get.

And that Republican majority in Congress will not stop until they have dragged the Presidency of Barack Obama into the dirt. They will not care one bit about the harm it will do to America. A Republican majority in Congress will do nothing but work towards "Obama's Waterloo", and the people who do not vote for Democrats in 2010 will be just as responsible for it as the people who vote for Republicans. That is the reality of it, and the possibility of a GOP majority in Congress is something America can NOT afford.

But you can do something about it before it is too late.

I get paid $2 a day, my job is taking advantage of me, and I LOVE IT

by: MinistryOfTruth

Sun May 30, 2010 at 15:33:24 PM CDT

I have been working a job since November. I have put countless hours of effort into this endeavor, and in that time I have received $300 in compensation. Over the 7 months I have worked with this organization I have been paid a little more than $40 a month. At about 30 days a month that breaks down to around $2 rounded up a day.

So yes, my job is totally taking advantage of me, and you know what? I LOVE IT.

In the interest of transparency I included this disclaimer to appear in my comments once our organization started soliciting funds and donation here online.

FULL DISCLOSURE - I'm a paid employee of PeanutButterPAC, a progressive PAC founded right here at DailyKos.com (including ProgressiveElectorate and the blogosphere at large).

Now, to further the interest of FULL DISCLOSURE, here is the full financial report of PeanutButterPac as of this date.

Liveblog with "Move your St $ into local banks" OR-Gov Candidate Bill Bradbury

by: MinistryOfTruth

Fri Apr 23, 2010 at 14:59:47 PM CDT

Ask Democratic OR-Gov OR-Gov Candidate Bill Bradbury questions with answers for the next hour in the comments below.

Wall St is irresponsibly gambling our money. Bill Moyers reports that only 6 Big Banks control 60% of GNP which is a huge story in and of itself.

Big Finance has grown while unemployment is through the roof and American families go deeper in debt, and after the bailouts they are bigger than ever. State and local Governments are going bankrupt. With that in mind, Bill Bradbury proposed a Bank of Oregon, which is not actually a bank but a system to divert State money away from Wall St and towards to smaller local banks that will lend to the local economy.

SEIU challenging Democrats who voted against health bill, forming third party in North Carolina

by: rossl

Fri Apr 09, 2010 at 14:45:02 PM CDT

Apparently inspired by certain Democrats voting against the health insurance reform, the Service Employees International Union - a union representing over 2 million workers - is surprisingly planning to work against Democrats this election season.

Perhaps the strongest challenge to Democrats, if not the Democratic establishment itself, will be in North Carolina.  The national SEIU is working with the State Employees Association of North Carolina, its state affiliate, to form the North Carolina First Party.

(Thanks for the info - promoted by admin)

Grace Ross, who ran in 2006 as the Green Party's candidate for governor of Massachusetts, is now running in the Democratic primary for the same office, against incumbent governor Deval Patrick.  "I wasn't planning to run again," stated Ross, "but things got worse.  Things got worse for regular people."

Texas candidate filing has now closed.

As you may already be aware there are a number of uncontested Republican Congresscritters.

And that sucks - big time.

Below the fold to see exactly what you (if you live in Texas) can do about it.

To Battle (2010)

by: joerubyoswald

Wed Jan 06, 2010 at 17:32:39 PM CST

2009 was a crazy year, wasn't it? It is hard to fathom, but it was only a year ago that the nation stood in united excitement and pride over the popular and historic new president-elect. Despite everything that had happened in 2008; the financial collapse, the two seemingly endless wars, the bitter and heated election season, the country somehow seemed stronger at the end of the year. I don't think I only feel that way because I supported Barack Obama. I guess I could be naïve, or just wrong, but judging by his high approval and favorability ratings at the time, not to mention just the buzz and excitement that seemed to run through everything that January, I think a large majority of the country was ready to start in a new direction. We were ready for change.

What a difference a year makes. As anyone reading this knows, the honeymoon faded fast, and gave way to one of the most brutal and partisan atmospheres since....well, since George Bush was in office. In political terms, not much has changed. The minority party is entrenched deep in their bunkers, only peering out to throw the occasional verbal grenade or political obstruction. The majority party increasingly leans towards the disposition that due to the moral inferiority of the minority, it is appropriate to turn a deaf ear and leave them out. The lines have been repainted in bright new paint. It is political warfare in America, from the Hill, to the blogs, to the dinner table.

Why I fight

by: MinistryOfTruth

Tue Jan 05, 2010 at 14:25:59 PM CST

What needs to be done in 2010? What can the left do in 2010 to ensure a better, stronger America for ALL Americans?

Before deciding what needs to be done, first we must remember what we are fighting for.

Paul Wellstone
July 21, 1944 - October 25, 2002

The people of this country, not special interest big money, should be the source of all political power. Government must remain the domain of the general citizenry, not a narrow elite.

                  ~ Senator Paul Wellstone

"Politics isn't about big money or power games; it's about the improvement of people's lives"

                  ~ Senator Paul Wellstone

"I think this is really a good example of the commercial calculus and ties taking precedence over everything else. It's sort of like the almighty dollar is triumphing over a lot of other values that we have as a nation."

                  ~ Senator Paul Wellstone

What's On Tap for 2010?

by: Curtis Abbey

Mon Dec 28, 2009 at 04:58:10 AM CST

What can we get done, and what should we push for in 2010? I've got a limited list off the top of my head.

Nationally
1. Campaign Finance + Lobbying Reform
2. Wall Street Reform: When the storm is over, we fix the ship
3. Antitrust Action: Improve the DOJ so we can actually go after monopolists. Maybe go after a few? (hint the top 7 richest Americans xWarren Buffett)
4. Want a Public Option? Get five more D Senators in 2010, or get three and by doing so scare two more. (Hurt the corporate media by disproving their meme that Dems are toast in '10?)
5. Jobs bill

Locally
1. Decriminalize Cannabis in California

PA-16: You couldn't stop Stupak. But you can stop Pitts.

by: LoisHerr2010

Thu Nov 12, 2009 at 13:59:18 PM CST

(Thank you for posting here with us Lois. Best of luck to you in 2010 - promoted by MinistryOfTruth)

Crossposted on Daily Kos  Thanks, MinistryofTruth & Alpolitics!

My name is Lois Herr, and I'm running for Congress in PA-16.

And I am mad.

While there is much good in last night's healthcare bill, an amendment sponsored by my opponent, Rep. Joe Pitts, is a direct attack on the freedom and privacy of American women.

Now keep in mind: this is the same Pitts who LED the debate of this amendment on the floor .

This is the same Pitts who has actively SPREAD LIES about the bill.

Time to WHIP Scott Murphy's undecided @$$ (D-NY20) on HCR

by: MinistryOfTruth

Sat Nov 07, 2009 at 13:38:54 PM CST

Remember Scott Murphy? I do. I wrote about a dozen diaries to help fundraise and phonebank for Scott Murphy in the special election for NY-20 held earlier this year.

Scott Murphy (D) beat Republican Jim Tedisco by a mere 200+ votes in that election.

And now he is undecided on whether or not he will vote on Health Care Reform, otherwise known as "Obama's Waterloo" in the Wingnutosphere.

So, what did I work my ass off for earlier this year?

I worked my ass off for the right to Yell Louder at Scott Murphy, who might listen to me, as opposed to a wingnut who certainly wouldn't, and I plan to use that right now, and I hope you will too.
