Good afternoon, Progressive Elctorate readers. This is your afternoon open thread to discuss all things Hill-related. Use this thread to praise or bash Congresscritters, share a juicy tip, ask questions, offer critiques and suggestions, or post manifestos.

As always, this is a crosspost from CongressMatters. This is the important news of the day. Okay, maybe only some of it. So if you disagree, go watch CSPAN. Or watch your government in neutral on CSPAN2.

Here are some of my own thoughts.

ShorterTM version today.

In case you had not heard, the list: Bunning R-KY, DeMint R-SC, Vitter R-LA, Hutchison R-T, Crapo R-ID, and Merkley D-OR.

That was monetary policy, this is fiscal, part two

Deficit scolds were lose today. How's that audit of the DOD coming?

At least a former auditor is asking questions

You knew this was not over yet, right? Got a calendar handy?

Sen. Ben Nelson is still playing hard to get. Him, too

Jay, Sheldon and Joe?

Rule XV. Talk some more.

Okay, it's Rep. Barney Frank's D-MA-4 line. Busted.

At least it was not anything to do with toes.

So, thoughts on HCR? (4.00 / 3)
The good, the bad, and the ugly, let's dish it out.

I see Bad and Ugly, what's good in this POS?

I say start over, this thing is FUBAR

I sit from a place of working for an Englishman (4.00 / 3)
but I have adult kids who are "naked". Twenty-seven will help them since I have a family policy due to teh socialisms. If the guaranteed benefits of SCHIP are still there, then the one grandson is still covered. Healthy kids, healthy adults.

Sixty was always a myth, so I knew this was going to be a slog. Would I have preferred a Swiss model and more regulation? Hell yes. Do I think we get a do-over in my lifetime? No. Am I worried, but not surprised, about Nelson and Casey? Privately yes, but don't tell the Pope.

I need some energy and political capital for the continued fight against corporate influence since I am not hopeful about SCOTUS decisions that I lead with here. And I think tax policy in this country sucks the blood out of working turnips.

maybe, Reid moved they voting on recests (4.00 / 3)
until right after midnight, then one hour later, cloture on the DOD conference Report to get it out of the way. Gets them to another calendar day on the cloture clock on this one since the Gee Oh Pee love the troops so much now. Didn't this kind of think used to be treason or something? They could have agreed to yield back some of those 30 hours.

Reid filed cloture on HR3590 and withdrew it first. Depends on what he means by holiday. We will do gifts on 6JAN10.

And McConnell pointed out that his request to recess until a specific time is AMENDABLE. Sen. Durbin was in the chair, not a freshman.
