There is a really dangerous amendment being pushed right now by Michigan Democrat Bart Stupak. It will take away funding for abortions through private insurance except for in extreme cases. This is a horrible step backwards for women's rights, and it's a poison pill designed to destroy the healthcare bill. Much more information in slinkerwink's current diary Blue Dogs Are Taking Away Women's Rights! CALL NOW!

Left in Alabama has good coverage of this also (4.00 / 1)
Call Blue Dog Congressman like Parker Griffith

I'm a little torn on this (4.00 / 1)
I don't think we need to scrap everything we have worked for over this debate. Shouldn't pro-life Dems have a right to vote yea or nay on this amendment? Some of them might be devout Catholics as one commenter in the LIA thread points out.

I don't want to scrap anything either (4.00 / 2)
that's the blackmail the other side knows they are using on us. We care about the bill passing, they don't.

i wouldn't say all of us care about passing it (4.00 / 1)

Any idea what Joshua Segall would vote on this? (0.00 / 0)
If he came out supporting it that would be good news we could fundraise on.

I don't know (4.00 / 1)
But right now, none of the Dems in Alabama even Davis are going to vote for the Final House bill.

That's a shame when even Jim Cooper indicates he will vote yes

Eh cooper's not gonna support it (0.00 / 0)

[H]e appears to admit voting for it only because he feels strongly it won't actually become law:

"I am grateful to the thousands of Nashville-area residents who have shared their opinion on health care reform with me. Everyone feels strongly because health care is so important to our lives. Having read the pending bills and having taught health policy at Vanderbilt business school for twelve years, I have made the following decision:

I will vote yes on H.R. 3962. My vote is not an endorsement of all the provisions of the bill because I find much of the bill to be deeply flawed. There is little chance that H.R. 3962 will become law due to the long legislative process....
