Judge Sue Bell Cobb Considering Entry in the AL-Gov's Race?

As if the Alabama's Governor's race was not already getting interesting enough in the past few weeks, we learned that Montgomery insiders are floating around the idea of Sue Bell Cobb entering the Democratic primary. The story hit the AP today .

Cobb's name began to surface this week, with speculation popping up on political Web sites.

Asked today if she is considering running, she said, "No comment."

Paul Hubbert, executive secretary of the Alabama Education Association, said Thursday he had a brief conversation with Cobb about her interest in the governor's race.

He said he is not encouraging or discouraging anyone from running because of his role as a vice chairman of the Alabama Democratic Party. But he added, "I'd like to see the Democratic Party field a good slate and certainly, she would be a good candidate."

I do not think this is a good idea with both Artur Davis and Ron Sparks already competing in the race. Sue Bell Cobb would be a formidable opponent and fundraiser although I hate the idea of losing our one Democrat on the State Courts.

As I commented on another site yesterday, I think that the lack of depth on the Alabama Judicial Bench for the Democrats is very troubling. The Democratic Party needs to groom some new fresh faces as we have been running great candidates and not faring well in Statewide judicial races. However, there is the problem with the high costs of the statewide races. That's another diary though.

In conclusion: I don't think Sue Bell Cobb will run.
